Relationship Anxiety Therapy in Georgia
The text says okay. Your brain says what if?
(they used a period. are they upset with me?)
The message is short. You read it four times, looking for a tone that might not be there. You draft a reply, delete it, and ask a friend what they think. Even after you hear 'it is probably fine,' the doubt comes back wearing a different outfit.
Relationship anxiety can make ordinary gaps in information feel urgent. You might scan for signs of distance, ask whether everything is okay, or rehearse a hard conversation so many times that you never actually have it. If this sounds familiar, you do not have to solve every uncertainty before you can show up as yourself.
We work on the worry, the checking, and the ways anxiety can pull you away from direct communication. This page is about individual therapy for anxiety in relationships. Couples work is a separate option if you and your partner want to work on a pattern together.
What it looks like
A small pause becomes a big story.
- You reread messages for hidden meaning.
- You check whether someone is online, then wonder why they have not replied.
- You ask if everything is okay more than once.
- You rehearse what to say but avoid the real conversation.
- You scan a partner's expression for signs of irritation.
- You change your answer to prevent a disagreement.
- You feel relief after reassurance, then need it again.
How we work
More conversation. Less detective work.
(you can ask directly. you can also wait.)
First we look at the sequence. What happens before you check, ask, or replay? What are you afraid a short reply or a different expression means? We get specific enough to see the difference between a real conversation you need to have and an anxious loop looking for certainty.
CBT helps you notice interpretations that arrive as facts: 'they are distant, so something is wrong' or 'if I say what I want, they will leave.' We can test those predictions and practice making room for more than one explanation before you respond.
Then we choose small behavior changes. You might wait before asking for reassurance, send one clear message instead of three carefully adjusted ones, or say what you actually mean without trying to manage the other person's reaction in advance. These are experiments, not rules you must follow perfectly.
We also make space for your boundaries and needs. The goal is not to ignore genuine relationship problems or persuade yourself that everything is fine. It is to respond to what is actually happening rather than what a worry loop predicts might be happening.
Some relationship doubt takes the form of repetitive intrusive questions and compulsive checking. When that is the pattern, ERP can be useful alongside the other work. We sort out which approach fits during the consult and keep practice tied to your real conversations.
If the doubts take on a repetitive OCD pattern, explore relationship OCD therapy.
If you want to work on a shared cycle with a partner, see EFT couples therapy.

What you'll actually do
Trade the replay for a real reply.
-
01
Spot the trigger
Notice which silences, messages, or moments start a chain of anxious interpretations.
-
02
Delay the check
Try a brief pause before asking for reassurance or rereading the conversation.
-
03
Say the real thing
Practice one direct question or boundary rather than trying to decode clues.
-
04
Review the outcome
Look at what happened, what remained uncertain, and what you want to try next.
Common questions
Before you book.
- Is this couples therapy?
- No. This page is about individual work on anxiety in relationships. EFT couples therapy is available separately if you want to work together.
- What if the relationship really does have problems?
- Therapy is not about dismissing real concerns. We work on separating what is happening from the anxious checking around it.
- How is this different from relationship OCD?
- Some patterns involve persistent intrusive doubts and compulsions. We can discuss what yours looks like on the consult without diagnosing you from a page.
- Can we meet online?
- Yes. Secure telehealth is available anywhere in Georgia, and in-person sessions are in Alpharetta.
