Teen OCD Therapy, Ages 13 to 17

# Your brain made a rule. You can _question it_.

(if i don't do it exactly right, something feels off.)

You are trying to get through homework, a practice, or dinner. Then a thought interrupts and insists you do one more thing before you can move on. Maybe it is a check, a repeat, a question you need answered, or a phrase you say silently until it feels right. Everyone else just sees you taking a little longer.

OCD can be loud without looking dramatic. It can show up in getting ready for school, sending a text, touching shared stuff, or being alone with a thought you do not want. You do not have to explain it perfectly before you can ask for help. You also do not have to tell a stranger every detail on the first day.

For teens ages 13 to 17, I use ERP and CBT in a practical, collaborative way. We figure out what the rules are, choose small exercises, and talk about how the adults in your life can support you without becoming another part of the checking loop.

What it looks like

## A regular day with extra rules attached.

- You redo a task because it did not feel finished the first time.
- You ask the same question even after someone has answered it.
- You avoid an assignment, object, or place that brings up an unwanted thought.
- You replay a conversation long after everyone else has moved on.
- You take longer to leave because you need to check something again.
- You get frustrated when someone interrupts a routine you were trying to complete.

What therapy looks like

## A plan that includes _your say_.

(no surprise challenges. no lectures.)

We begin with a conversation, not a test. You tell me what parts of the day get caught up in OCD, and I ask questions so we can tell the difference between a useful habit and a rule that keeps growing. If talking about one thought feels too hard at first, we can start with the pattern around it.

Then we make a ladder of small, agreed-upon practices. ERP means facing a little of the discomfort while not doing the extra ritual that usually follows. A first step might be sending a text after one read or leaving a routine slightly unfinished. You get a voice in which step comes first.

CBT helps us look at thoughts like 'if I think it, it must mean something' or 'I have to be totally sure.' We do not need to prove every thought wrong. We work on making less room for the endless argument and more room for school, friends, rest, and everything else that is yours.

Parents can support the work, but they do not have to turn the house into a therapy office. We talk about how to respond when reassurance is requested, how to make room for practice, and how to stay connected when everybody is tired of the same argument.

There will be small assignments between sessions, shaped around your actual life. We review what happened without turning it into a pass-or-fail grade. If a step was too much, we make it smaller. If it was manageable, we decide what comes next together.

What you'll actually do

## Small steps, not a pop quiz.

1. 01
   ### Name the rules
Describe what OCD tells you to do and when it makes everyday things harder.
2. 02
   ### Pick your first practice
Choose a manageable step and decide what support you want from a parent or caregiver.
3. 03
   ### Try it in real life
Practice between sessions where the pattern shows up, not just while sitting in the office.
4. 04
   ### Adjust together
Review what happened and change the plan to fit your week, your pace, and your goals.

Common questions

## Before you book.

Do my parents have to come to every session?

No. We can discuss how to include them in a way that supports the work and respects your role in it.

Will I be forced to do an exposure?

No. We plan practices together and start with steps that are challenging but doable.

What ages do you see?

I work with teens ages 13 to 17, as well as adults and couples.

Can we meet online?

Yes, if you are physically in Georgia for the session. In-person appointments are in Alpharetta.

## Ready when _you_ are.

A free 15-minute call. You tell me what's going on. I tell you honestly whether I'm the right fit.
