Relationship OCD Therapy in Alpharetta, GA

# Relationship OCD: when "do I love them _enough_?" won't stop.

(they're laughing at my joke. do i feel the right amount right now?)

You're on the couch with someone good. Kind, funny, easy to be around. And a question slides in: but do I really love them? Is this the right feeling? Would I feel more with someone else? Suddenly the evening turns into an investigation.

Relationship doubt is normal. But when the question feels urgent, when you keep checking your feelings like a pulse, and when every answer wears off by morning, it can start to look like the same loop that drives OCD (https://thesolacespacetherapy.com/erp-ocd-therapy). Sometimes people call it ROCD.

I treat this pattern with ERP aimed at the doubt itself. Where it helps, I also offer EFT couples therapy (https://thesolacespacetherapy.com/eft-couples-therapy). And if asking your partner for reassurance has become a habit, the article on why reassurance makes anxiety louder (https://thesolacespacetherapy.com/resources/reassurance-seeking) is worth a read.

What it looks like

## Love, but make it an _audit_.

- You check whether you feel attracted, or in love, or 'enough,' several times a day.
- You compare your relationship to friends', exes', or couples on social media.
- You notice a flaw in your partner and can't stop weighing whether it's a dealbreaker.
- You ask your partner, friends or family if they think you're right together.
- You replay memories to find proof you felt the right way at the start.
- You take online quizzes about whether you're really in love. More than one.

How ERP helps with the doubt

## Stop _taking your temperature_.

(feelings aren't a gauge you can read on demand.)

Feelings change all day. Tired, bored, hungry, distracted: none of those feel like movie romance, and that's normal. The trouble starts when every dip gets treated as evidence that needs investigating. Checking, comparing, asking and reviewing all bring brief relief and then more doubt.

ERP gradually helps you allow the uncertainty without doing the checking. That might mean noticing the "do I love them?" thought and continuing dinner anyway. Or seeing a happy couple online without running the comparison. Or saying "maybe, maybe not" to the doubt instead of arguing with it.

It sounds almost too simple. It isn't easy. But as the checking drops, the doubt tends to lose its grip, and you get your attention back for the actual relationship.

Therapy doesn't decide whether you stay or leave. It gets you out of the loop so the decision, whatever it is, is yours and not your anxiety's.

Sometimes the relationship itself needs some attention too: disconnection, the same fight on repeat, trouble feeling close. That's where EFT couples work can help, with both of you in the room.

What you'll actually do

## Less checking, more _living_ in it.

1. 01
   ### Name the checks
We identify every way you test your feelings or your partner, including the invisible ones you do in your head.
2. 02
   ### Build a ladder
From easier triggers to harder ones, you pick where to start practicing sitting with the doubt.
3. 03
   ### Cut back reassurance
A gentle plan for asking your partner and friends less, often with a script your partner can use too.
4. 04
   ### Practice presence
Small assignments between sessions to stay in the moment with your partner instead of monitoring it.

Common questions

## Before you book.

How is this different from normal relationship doubts?

Everyone wonders about their relationship sometimes. The pattern described here is more about the loop: the doubt feels urgent, you check or compare or ask to settle it, and it comes right back. We can talk through your situation on the consult.

Will therapy tell me whether to stay or leave?

No. That decision belongs to you. The work helps you step out of the doubt loop so you can see your relationship more clearly, whatever you decide.

Should my partner come to sessions?

Individual ERP is usually the starting point. Sometimes a partner joins for a session to learn how to respond to reassurance requests, and EFT couples therapy is an option if you both want to work on the relationship.

## Ready when _you_ are.
